Geocaching popular event in Highway 14 corridor
What is a hobby that people worldwide are doing in Nebraska?
It’s geocaching.
People use their Global Positioning Systems (GPS) to find
geocache "treasures" by lining up the coordinates
which can be found at www.geocache.com
or on the Highway 14 website.
Geocaching is a popular hunting game for all ages, and nearly
150 geocachers, from near and far, have found the hidden treasures
along the Highway 14 corridor in the past few months.
Organizers for Highway 14 Association Inc. chose mostly "mom
and pop" businesses as locations for the treasures. Replies
from the hunters have included: "This is my favorite
restaurant" or "I’m going to gain some weight
doing the Highway 14 geocaches, because we stop and get something
to eat at several places along the way."
Last year, Gov. Dave Heineman designated Highway 14 as the
"Geocache Highway of Nebraska."
So, if you are looking for a new and interesting hobby, try
geocaching. Worldwide, there are 876,335 geocache treasure
hunts just waiting to be found.

Those who would like to use their GPS equipment to find the
14 geocaches, located from Niobrara to Superior in the Highway
14 corridor, are welcome to do so. There is no charge for
the event and it culminates on Nov. 14, 2008.
For each geocache found, Highway 14 Association would like

and send it via e-mail to: info@highway14.org,
along with their name, address and phone number.
A commemorative card will be available to all participants

What is Geocaching?
Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for gps users.
Participating in a cache hunt is a good way to take advantage
of the wonderful features and capability of a gps unit. The
basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up
caches all over the world and share the locations of these
caches on the internet. GPS users can then use the location
coordinates to find the caches. Once found, a cache may provide
the visitor with a wide variety of rewards. All the visitor
is asked to do is if they get something they should try to
leave something for the cache. Read more about geocaching
